from passive obsession to action...

i'm very seriously thinking about buying a regency-style dress. do i have the money? not really. do i have an excuse? you betcha. it'll make an awesome halloween costume! :P i'm pathetic.

a grey, already made dress for $49.99 (hopefully no one else will bid on it) and $10 shipping. it fits (well, the bust would be a little tight, but a little lift never hurt anyone).

or i can get one made specifically for myself and pick the cloth for $75 and $5 shipping.

either one would be money well spent. ...it would! i swear! i don't really need the money for food or rent or bills.

and before you ask, yes i should be reading instead of paroozing e-bay obsessively hunting for a halloween costume.

I personally really like the details of the grey one!

And I've got no room to make fun of you, I'm about to embark on making myself a Halloween costume based on, ohhhhhhh yes you guessed it, a cartoon. I'm this close to dying my hair to match!

If it were me, I'd lean towards spending the extra and getting a dress that I knew for sure fit. You don't want to spend the money and realize the pre-made one cuts off circulation to your boobies and makes them fall off. I do really like the grey though, so I don't know.

Oh, and Mel is a nerd.

You raise a good point about the boobies...

Also, *pbblbpt* :-P

awesome costume, mel. :) yay nerdom!

ends up, no worries about my boobies. i told chris about the dresses this evening, and he said "would you like the $75 one for your birthday?" he's really serious about giving me the money to buy that dress. for about 10 minutes, i tried to get him to agree to go half with me on it instead, but then i gave up. i now reserve the right to fully revel in the ecstasy that will be mine. :P one more notch in my jane austen obsession bedpost. so now i just need to decide on what fabric i want. heeheehee!

Re: hooray for nerds!

here's her "swatches"

i think i'm going to go with what she has the example dress in:

but i might go a little more bold:

or

the latter two are probably more typical of the period (although, i'm not really sure, i need to do some more research), but the first one is prettier, and probably not completely innacurate. would be good for a day or an evening dress. the other options she has i'm just not latching onto. but yeah, the priority is accuracy, which is why i didn't get the grey dress. grey would've only been used for mourning, and i don't want to look like anyone died. although, that would be more appropriate for halloween. :P
